Good mate of mine is a social worker and says much the same. Her bosses are generally (paraphrasing her) lesbians who have no idea what they're doing or old age hippies who mean well but haven't been "in the field" for decades. She's not even 30 and already looking at a career change, not cos she can't stomach the work side of it but cos nothing ever gets done coz of the inadequacy of management. Some stories I've heard I'm honestly surprised that we don't get cases like this every day.

It wasn't meant to be a cliche, but social services has been failing because it hasn't dealt with the problems that society keeps presenting. People use the word poverty far too easily, I'd argue that poverty disappeared from this country in the 70's.
Inadequacy is the new poverty.
This isn't political - successive governments have overseen repetitive horrors like this. There will be statements of sorrow, regret and failure, followed by the obligatory apology. But what hope is there of improvement if funding is cut?

Nowhere is the cliché of people promoted to their level of maximum tolerable incompetence truer than in social services management.
It's also true that the idiot daughters of the middle class drift into social services. If they had any brains or talent they'd be Dr's or Lawyers. Men who might be good just don't get involved except in a few specialisms.
Social work is as bad now as the
police were in the 70's. The entire system needs to radical reform and professionalization . Even if it was funded as it needed to be it wouldn't work properly. At the age of 25 I was, with no qualifications, running a night shelter, set up a dodgy priest, staffed by lunatics and full of drug users, run-away kids and alcoholic ex-squaddies. In one year I had five different managers. Things are worse now than then across the board. Children services and housing services where I live are vanity projects run by unqualified staff so they can feel good about themselves and let everyone know how great they are. About 25% of the staff in social services stop 99% of the massive fuck ups by working at levels way, way above safety. And they burn out quickly.

Social Services have made a lot of mistakes but who would want to be part of that service under the current climate? You can bemoan the way the service is perceived, awash with lefties who always appear to protect the wrong parties, but the whole social service system is buckling.
But we must pay down the debt. Then everything will be fine.

I don't think that is any more pointless than coming on here and posting how you have no problem killing these two women or what you would do to them, when you have no intention of doing anything of the sort.
Horrific and disgusting tragedy.
And we have a system that just holds society together which will deal with them. Does it seem like enough, right now?
Not in the slightest but the consequences of taking it further end up hurting us all.
But people need to vent I get it.

Why do people still think child killers get a hard time in prison...its not allowed by law and that law is protected fully and supported by the system 24/7
